SEO Best Practices for Writing Effective Title tag   2 comments

We have discussed various aspect of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and on-page optimization is one that I have often mentioned with its benefits and essentiality over search engines and traffic. However, in this post, I will tell you some effective ways to write and optimize your title-tag that is of course, one important part of on-page optimization and SEO.

Title tag is crucial and needs effective SEO optimization because it helps search engines and web visitors to determine your content type for better indexing and relevant approach respectively. Hence, the title tag of your website is key for SERP visibility and ranking. In the SEO world, it is assumed that search engines like Google and Yahoo gives the website’s title tag a great weight than others, but a well SEO optimized title tag is the contain of only 70 characters of your keywords and not more. Thus, it is very important that you mention your primary and secondary keywords within these 70 characters of title tag and your brand name too– if you think it is important. However, branding is essential and I suggest you to use in your title tag.

SEO best practices over title tag optimization include the two simple methods of optimization. In addition, depending on your needs and requirements, you have to choose the best that suits your online business.

The HTML title tag code:

<title>Your Title</title>

Title-tag Format 1:

Brand Name – Primary Keyword | Secondary Keyword

In the above format, you will place your brand name first and then comes your primary keyword and the secondary. The benefits of using your brand name on the first place are:

ü It helps searchers easily locate your website in the SERP, if your brand name is well known.

ü It helps to create awareness about your brand in your niche and among the web traffic.

ü When search keyword is your brand name, the probability is very high for you to rank on the first page. However, such search is only possible if the searchers are aware of your brand.

Using brand name at the initial of your title-tag is the best use for well-known organization like Nike and Sony because the brand names itself work hundred times better than the primary keyword and the secondary keyword.

Title-tag Format 2:

Primary Keyword | Secondary Keyword | Brand Name

In the above format, the primary keyword is placed first and comes the secondary keyword; we only use the brand name at last. Some benefits of this format are:

ü Placing your primary keyword at initial helps your website to rank better in SERP when the search is performed using the keyword.

ü Secondary keyword is the support of your primary keyword. Hence, it should be closely related to your primary keyword so that it can boost your website when the any keywords close to them are used.

ü Your website is not known or the products. Thus, placing your brand name at the end does not make bigger difference in search. However, using brand name helps creating awareness about your brand and works one strong step for strong brand name creation.

It is highly suggested to use your primary keywords and secondary one in the initial because using brand names that are unknown to your consumers is almost useless. Furthermore, using brand name in the initial part of your keyword creates problems to list your website better in SERP.

SEO Tips on Effective Keyword and Key-Phrases Optimization for Search Engines   3 comments

SEO is a famous term among webmasters, but the implementation of Search Engine Optimization is still least. Yesterday, I came across some web designers-web owners who have been working in this field of web and graphic design since 2003, but what surprised me was they are aware of SEO—the term—but the meaning is still vague to them and SEO implementation is out of the question.

Well, it is not a surprising story because there are many web designers and some are professional, who hardly cares what SEO really stands for. However, I drew some odd faces of SEO for them and they were even more surprise to know the correlation of SEO and Web design.

Thus, in this post, I thought of looking back to some SEO basic, but what really made me write on keyword density and its prominence is when I found on my blog analytics, that someone reached to my blog and left out because he/she was looking for some valuable contents on “method of calculation of keyword density”. Hence, to avoid such things to happen in future and add some basic of SEO to web designers and content writers, I clarify everything here:

  • Keyword Density:

One effective and must do SEO optimization on your content is the optimization of your keyword density. In simple words, keyword density is the percentage calculation of your keywords and key-phrases in relation to the volume of your content. In addition, this is one strong clue for Google and search engines to determine the theme of your website. Search engines are human made robots and they cannot read and perceive like human mind. However, these robots are calculative and such calculations help search engines to classify web contents and its theme for proper indexing process.

Keyword Density Calculation:

Let us suppose, an article on Data Recovery is of 1200 words and data recovery is the keyword that is repeated for 64 times in the entire article. Now, search engines simply determine this by performing following calculation:

Keyword Density = Keyword/ Number of words in Content × 100%

I.e. 64 / 1200 × 100% = 5.3333% Keep your keyword density from 3-6 percent.

Hence, in your entire content the keyword density of “Data Recovery” is 5.3333%

Now, if your keyword density is not well optimized in your content than the horrible situation comes when you write an article on Data Recovery, but you replace the keyword using pronouns often. In such case, the Google finds those particular words that been frequently used in the entire article and suppose it as the keyword. For instance, if the word “Suppose” is highly used than “Data Recovery” search engines are more likely to assume the keyword of the content to be “Suppose”. However, it doesn’t necessarily assumes the entire website working on the keyword “Suppose” because it crawls other essential part of your website like title tag, keyword tag etc, but it is sure that your content won’t appear when anyone use the keyword “Data Recovery” in Google. Thus, maintaining healthy keyword density in your content is very crucial for better visibility in search engines.

  • Keyword Prominence:

Keyword prominence is another important factor in your webpage that helps gaining better visibility in SERP and placement. Keyword prominence is the particular keyword that webmaster and search engine optimizers have given proper attention by implementing them in their title tag, headers, beginning of the paragraph and hyperlinks. These are the important SEO gauge of your website and Google highly depends on these factors to determine the theme of your website.

For instance, if you use the word “Data Recovery” effectively in the title tag, headings and in the beginning of the visible text than you are simply conveying search engines a message that the word used “Data Recovery” is the keyword you are optimizing for. Hence, placing keywords on such parts of your web page should be done wisely.

Furthermore, there are webmasters who knows the impact of keyword prominence in their website, but even after successful implementation, they find low visibility of their page in SERP. For them, I would like to suggest, avoid diluting the keyword prominence by simply tightening their keywords. For example: rather than using “Effective Tips on Data Recovery” you can simply use “Data Recovery Tips” if their keyword is “Data Recovery Tips”.

  • Keyword Proximity:

Keyword proximity is the key addition to SEO optimization and is equally important for effective on-page SEO. Keyword proximity is the close relevance of those keywords that your searchers are more likely to use in search engines. If the majority is of the searchers use “Blog Submission Directory” to find your website than to appear in a better place of your SERP it is very crucial to optimize your web page and content by using such keywords so that there remains nothing to confuse the search engines. For instance, if your searchers use “Blog Submission Directory” for the search and you are using “Great Directory Submission” than you are likely to get behind in SERP.

  • Keyword Frequency:

The concept of keyword frequency is closely related to the theory of keyword density. Your keyword frequency is the weighing of the keyword visibility in your webpage’s specific parts. In keyword frequency, search engines determine the number of times your keyword has appeared in the page and weighs it according to the specific areas of its emergence. However, it does not calculate your keywords as it does with the keyword density. Hence, if your keyword has appeared 64 times in your content than search engines count the keyword frequency as 64 times.

Nevertheless, it is very important for webmasters to understand that implementing high frequency or even the density of your keywords leads to keyword stuffing that is equivalent to spam creating. Thus, search engines are more likely to penalize your website for such act.

Similarly, it is also crucial to make your keyword appear in the important parts of your content. Google and search engines generally reads first 200 hundred lines of your content and not all to determine the page theme. Hence, it is highly suggested to use your major keywords in an organic way in the first 200 lines. However, it does not mean to exclude keywords after 200 lines.

Title tag Optimization Best SEO Practices   1 comment

Title tag is one essential part of your website that needs effective SEO optimization. Your title tag being one important part of your webpage that search engines crawls to distinguish you from others, title tag optimization should be done with caution. A title tag should be 62 to 70 characters long and should contain your major keywords to define your business and the page to search engines and traffic.

However, webmasters often ignore them and simply looses the entire benefit that their website can get just by self-optimizing the title tag. Hence, in this post, I will mention about title tag optimization for effective ranking and solving your branding issue online.

  • Keywords:

Keyword placement in the Title tag is vital for both search engines and search traffic. Because the title tag weighs more in search engines, it is crucial for better ranking and gaining visibility in SERP. Similarly, title tag helps search traffic to determine what the page is about and same is true with the search engines. Hence, your title tag should contain all the major keywords that you think your searchers are more likely to use and search to find the services and products you offer. However, the keywords that you use in the title should also define the page at the same time. Use your brand name in the title, as it is very important and effective for branding purpose in online marketing.

  • Keyword Recurrence:

Avoid keyword recurrence in title tag because title tag is a 70-character sentence that defines your page and recurrence makes no sense. However, using synonyms is highly beneficial and one effective way to avoid recurrence and being title rich. Similarly, do not use the same keyword in any other page of your webpage. Many people thinks that title tag should be same in every page, but it is not so. Every page should have its own unique and keyword rich title tag; recurrence can lead to duplicate content issue that is highly SEO unfriendly.

  • Stop Words:

Using stop words or conjunctions in the title tag is useless, and should be avoided because it simply consumes more characters in the title tag hinders in keyword placement. Furthermore, even search engines avoid these stop words when they search their index for relevant results. Hence, it is not fruitful. Attempt to use pipelines to separate your keywords from one another, so that it looks beautiful and in the same time easily readable.

  • Using Location:

Another important keyword for your website title tag is the location. Although, it is not “must do”, but if your e-business is highly focused for locals, or you want to attract consumers to your local store via online marketing than using the name of the city, and other important location is better. Furthermore, as already mentioned that search engines weighs title tag with greater value, when your location is placed on the title tag than you are more likely to appear whenever web traffic use the keywords with the location. It also promises a real buyer rather than just a surfer.

  • Branding:

Branding is very important and is one important factor of businesses that often they want their SEO’s to optimize their websites for branding sake. If you do not have a strong business and if you are running just a blog than branding is nothing to be worried about. However, if you have big enterprises and you want people to know your products and services with the brand name like Nike and Ford than using your company name in the title can help you in effective branding implementation.

SEO Tips for Optimizing Website’s Internal Links   3 comments

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all base on links because the only means of crawling contents and websites for Googlebots and other search engines robots is the link. Therefore, how your website ranks in the SERP and your SEO health of your website highly depends on your generated links of your website. Although, links defines of various kind but in this post we will be discussing about the internal links of your website and its SEO optimization to boost your website ranking SERP.

SEO Tips for Optimizing Website’s Internal Links

  • Virtual Siloing:

Virtual Siloing is a very crucial yet an effective tool of Search-Engine-Optimization (SEO) and promising SEO technique for optimizing your websites internal links for both search engines and traffic. Virtual Siloing is a process of interlinking with your websites content that speaks same subject. Virtual Siloing is one great way to optimize your contents and internal links for search engines and web traffic because it helps search engines to crawl through only those contents of your website that relates to one particular theme and helps your website to get easily index and appear in better placement of SERP.

  • Anchor Text:

Anchor text optimization is another crucial part of Search-Engine-Optimization (SEO) because your anchor text in the links holds a great weight for search engines. Although, many webmasters are usually encountered using unrelated anchor text to their links like “Click Here” and “More” etc which is not only irrelevant to the links and its subject but it also offers no definite idea to your users where the link will navigate them. Hence, it is highly recommended to use quality anchor text to your links that are relevant to the page. For instance, if you wanted to direct your users from a “Cheese” content to “Pizza Recipe” than it is better to use “Pizza Recipe Tips” etc. that is equally helpful to users as well as the search engines.

  • Repetition of Linking:

Google and search engines seeks for quality results to satisfy their users so they always refine their search result by omitting repetition of same content so that users can have multiple choices. Therefore, it is highly SEO unfriendly to link a particular content repeatedly from same page because Googlebots will crawl the same content with no fresh and new subject. Hence, they simply ignore your content if you have such linking repetition and place your content low on the SERP. Hence, for better effectiveness of your SEO exercise in your website and blog I suggested to avoid such interlinking practices.

  • Sitemap:

Sitemap is another highly recommended SEO tool for your website and is highly effective for making search engines crawl your website and blogs more precisely. Sitemaps provides link to each and every content of your website in a managed way that it makes crawling ease for search engines and index your website swiftly and more promptly. Furthermore, sitemap also helps your users to locate your content in your website that is without sitemap a frustrating task especially if your website contains thousands of pages.

  • Optimizing Broken Links:

One big reason why we often see websites lose their ranking and placement from SERP is because of broken links. Websites that contains more than thousand pages also has the risk of encountering broken links due to some errors and if ignored by webmaster and SEO’s search engines fails to crawl your contents because links are only the means for search engines to crawl from content to content and websites to websites. Hence, it is very essential to watch website interlinks and maintain them if you encounter them broken. Moreover, you can also use various software’s online available for finding out the broken links in your website which is relief giving especially if you run a website that contains thousands of pages.

301 Redirection is the only redirection method that is SEO friendly and avoids all the consequences of redirection like: loss of traffic, fluctuation in the page rank and your web page placement. 301 page redirection is the symbol of moved permanently and the core motive of using this redirection method is to lead the search engines and your visitors to another page rather than simply giving them the “404 Page not Found” Error which is a hopeless result for your traffic and such error is surely going to kill your ranking. Hence, the 301 redirection simply helps you to maintain your rankings and works like a torch for your visitors so that they won’t get lost in the middle. According to Google your redirection can take at least 6 to 8 weeks to see the changes in your page.

301-Redirection and .htaccess file

.htaccess files are configuration files created in a notepad and placed inside the web tree which simply instructs your web servers to act as commanded in the security, redirection, content control and coverage of some errors. But, in this post I will be mentioning about .htaccess files for redirection of your webpage.

301-Rdirection Implementation:

ü Create a note pad in your desktop and save the file as an .htaccess. But, if you have one in your webpage then simply download the file to your desktop.

ü Place the following code in the note pad or in the .htaccess file and save it.

redirect 301 /me/me.htm

ü Now upload your file to the root folder of your server and simply perform the trial by typing the old address.

ü A successful redirection should take you to the new page or location.

ü Please do not add “http://www” in the above statement but place the path from the top level of your website to the page.

ü Do not forget to leave space between elements.

Using 301-redirection Google and search engines will simply redirect your visitors and itself to the new location without causing any error or making you lose your ranks. But, in the next new update your old file name and the path that you have created will be removed with the new .htaccess commands.

ü 301 redirection is instant and highly search engine friendly.

ü If your page has no backlinks coming or traffic then 301 redirection is not for you. You can simply change rename your page and re-submit your XML sitemap to Google and Yahoo or other search engines.

ü Make sure all of your pages are working find after the redirection implement.

7 Widely Used Black Hat Techniques in SEO   14 comments

Black Hat SEO is practicing and getting yourself involve in such optimizing techniques that simply breaks the search engines rules of optimization. Black hat search engine optimization were highly practiced when search engines were not advanced enough to detect such technical errors and SEO’s would simply do this to gain better ranking in the search result with less effort.

But, today search engines are very advanced and the even the consequence of involving in such optimization has very severe penalties like: delisting the website from the search engine index and banning your website forever.

The only motive of listing some Black hat techniques here in this post is to make the readers aware about what has already been prohibited by the search engine teams.

7 Widely Used Black Hat Techniques in SEO

Ø Black Hat on Text and Content:

Using the websites content for Black hat purposes was a widely used technique in past especially when search engines were not that advance to differentiate such faults. Search engine optimizers would accomplish this task by simply adding some extra keywords in their content and intentionally made it invisible for the readers but not for search engines.

A simply way of doing this was matching the text color with the background image/color of the page which would then make it impossible for human eyes to see the texts but search engines could still crawl those extra keywords and rank those websites better. The main motive of this technique was to add some more keywords in the content without making the content look over optimized or spam. But, search engines today can easily detect such errors and if found any website practicing such Black hat SEO then they is sure to get penalize.

Ø Black Hat on Websites:

Creating various websites with the same content was once found to be very effective for better ranking in search engines. SEO’s would simply create several websites with the same content everywhere and this helped them with huge traffic and good placement in the search results but later when such faulty practice was discovered this black hat trick which is also known as mirror websites was prohibited and is only limited in the list of Black Hat Optimization.

Ø Black Hat of Cloaking:

Cloaking is one of the best tools of black hat SEO and was used to deceive search engines for better ranking and placement. SEO’s would simply create a different page for search engines to spider and in the other hand the original page was for human. Practicing cloaking is a serious offense in search engine optimization and can simply ban your website for involving in such malpractices.

Ø Black Hat on Domain:

Black hat SEO’s was also practiced in the domains especially in old domains that are about to get expire or were outdated. Black hat SEO’s would buy such domains and later the link page of that expired page were uploaded to their own website which was found to offer better page ranks to their own website. But, this practice is not possible today because Google and other search engines simply reset the page rank of those domains that gets expired.

Ø Black Hat on Articles:

Black hat SEO’s were also involved in spinning the articles. This practice is although considered as a spam and duplicate content but earlier was a good Black hat technique. It involves copying contents and articles from someone else’s website and with replacing some words with their synonyms and posting them in their own website. Involving in such practices can delist you from the search engine index.

Ø Black Hat on Comments:

Black Hat on comments is simply making comments to various blogs. Some Black hat SEO’s still practice this when you get a comment in your post that makes no sense with the post that you have published. But, earlier such practice was huge and people even used software’s to post huge numbers of comment in various blogs. This is simply a spam generating practice and practicing such technique can simply lead your website to search engine penalties.

Ø Black Hat on Pages:

Black Hat minds did practiced creating extra pages for their website and later were named as a door way page. The main motive of this trick was to drive huge traffic unrelated traffic to the website. It is simply a practice of pulling traffic to your page no matter if they wish or not. Door way page are also known as portal pages and jump pages which is a prohibited by search engines and if found involved then search engines are likely to ban your website forever.
